Puerto Varas: City founded by German immigrants in 1853 with the support of the Chilean government. Some houses alternate neo-baroque and neoclassical aspirations (see Kuschel House built in 1915-1917, or Jüpner-Klenner House, built in 1910). Puerto Varas or also called “the city of roses” for all these flowers that adorn the streets, is quite extensive and far from being lost deep in the countryside. Its incredible landscape with Lake Llanquihue and the Osorno Volcano (alt. 2,652m) in the background. It is also the gateway to several tourist sites.

You will depart from Pargua, where you will board a ferry that crosses the Chacao Channel. For the immersion in the world of Chiloé, you will start the day sailing for 30 minutes through the Chacao Channel, where you can observe a great variety of birds, and if luck permits, the navigation will be accompanied by charming Commerson’s dolphins (cousins of dolphins) until you reach the small town of Chacao.

Over the years, the waters of the lake have eroded the shoreline escarpments, creating these formations that, when the lake has little water, can be crossed using small boats.
